Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2026
Thesis Editor does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. All data stays within your Google account.
Information We Access
To provide its functionality, Thesis Editor requires access to:
1. Current Google Document
We access the content of your open document to provide formatting, word count, section navigation, and reference management features.
2. Google Drive (Export)
When you export, we create PDF files in your Drive.
3. User Interface
We display a sidebar within Google Docs. This is a standard add-on capability.
Information We Store
User Preferences
Settings like formatting options are stored via Google's PropertiesService, within Google's infrastructure, associated with your account, not accessible to us.
Document-Specific Data
Info like your reference list and section structure is stored in the document's properties. This data travels with the document and is only accessible to users with document access.
What We Don't Collect
Google User Data Retention
What Google data we access: Thesis Editor only accesses Google user data during active use of the add-on. This includes the content of your currently open Google Document and your Google Drive (solely to create export files you request).
How long we retain Google user data:
- Document content: We do not retain or store your document content. It is accessed in real-time, processed locally within Google's infrastructure, and never transmitted to external servers.
- User preferences: Stored via Google's PropertiesService within your Google account. Retained until you uninstall the add-on.
- Document metadata: Settings specific to a document (like reference lists) are stored in the document's own properties and retained as long as the document exists.
We do not retain: Copies of your documents, document content on external servers, access tokens beyond the active session, or any Google user data outside of Google's infrastructure.
Google User Data Deletion
Your right to deletion: You can delete all Google user data associated with Thesis Editor at any time.
How to delete your Google user data:
- Revoke access entirely: Go to Google Account Permissions and remove Thesis Editor. This immediately revokes all access and deletes all stored preferences.
- Delete document-specific data: Delete the Google Document itself, or copy its content to a new document (document properties do not transfer).
- Request assistance: Contact us at contact@thesiseditor.app. We will provide guidance to ensure all associated data is removed within 30 days.
What happens when you revoke access: When you remove Thesis Editor from your Google account, all user preferences are immediately deleted. We lose all ability to access your Google Docs or Drive. No residual data remains on any external server because we do not operate external servers.
Data Security
All data remains within Google's infrastructure, protected by Google's security measures. We don't operate external servers, so we cannot be a point of data breach.
Google API Compliance
Thesis Editor's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
